Description

Alright y’all, sorry not sorry but homemade waffles are my jam. This is a gluten free Belgian waffle recipe with buttermilk to be exact. And let me just say making waffles at home are what weekends are made for.

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Heat non stick waffle iron to medium- high setting; coat with butter or cooking spray if needed.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder and salt until fully incorporated.
  3. Make a well in center of bowl by moving flour to the sides of bowl. Add egg, buttermilk, and vanilla to well, and quickly mix together with a fork. Pour in melted butter and mix with flour until all ingredients are fully incorporated into waffle batter.
  4. Once waffle iron is heated, spoon batter evenly into waffle grates and close; cook until waffle maker directions.
  5. My Belgian waffle iron will beep when it’s finished. You’ll know waffles are finished cooking when they release easily from the pan. If they are slightly stuck to the pan let them cook a little longer until the release with a gentle tug.
  6. The edges should be crispy on the outside and fully cooked but soft in the center. Serve waffles with salted butter, pure maple syrup and loads of berries.

Notes

  • Please note, this recipe makes 4 large Belgian waffles. If using smaller waffle iron, it will make more waffles so don’t overload the waffle maker with batter.
  • I use King Arthur measure for measure gluten free flour in this recipe, but regular all purpose works great too.
