Garden Tea Party Themed Baby Shower

By Kristina LaRue, RDN 12 Comments

Pinterest is crazy. I hosted my first “real party” this past weekend, and can now understand what it takes to plan a party now that pinterest is in our lives. Gosh I’m so glad I got married pre-pinning.. that would have been real crazy.
I had a vision of what I wanted to do… an outdoor garden tea party baby shower. I was shocked to see that so many people do tea parties for baby showers on pinterest and elements of what I wanted in my head was already executed and beautifully displayed on pinterest. I can’t lie, it was super helpful in planning the shower because I’m very visual. Click here if you want to see my baby shower pin board.. it’s no longer a “secret” anymore 🙂
My dear friend Rachel is having a baby girl! Rachel and I met through a small group bible study at our church. When Eric and I first moved to Orlando and started attending Summit, we joined a bible study group with “newlyweds”. And we’ve all grown together over the past 3 years and now we’re expanding. Last fall when we’d get together for dinner some one else would share that they were pregnant…and they are all due this Spring!! I joke that I have a spring baby too— the marathon! 😉
Rachel and I meet often for coffee and breakfast dates. She’s a very talented wedding and baby photographer (she shot my sis in law’s wedding last year). We love to talk about business, photography, and girly stuff, I’m sure glad we both have a love for coffee and breakfast food. I was so thrilled that I got to host a shower in her honor. This pic is a self portrait that she sent me to use for the shower.. yeah, she’s talented and gorgeous!
She decorated her baby room in black and white stripes so I wanted to use some elements of black and white in the theme. I found an adorable black and white polka dot fabric at hobby lobby. Everything came together just as I had hoped for and the weather was perfect for the outdoor occasion!
The Menu
Lemon Chicken Salad
Fresh Greens Salad
Chickpea, Quinoa, and Feta Salad
Cinnamon Fruit Salad
Strawberry Thyme Lemonade
Mint Iced Tea
The Dessert Table
Carrot Cake Cupcakes (made by mom)
Onsie Cookies (made by sis)
White Velvet Cake with Strawberry Mouse Filling (made by mom)
Cranberry Orange Scones
Vanilla Almond Biscotti
My sister, sister in law, mom, dad, Eric, and a few friends really stepped up to help me get things together for the shower. Dad made the lemonade, tea, coffee and brought over all the tables and chairs. Eric cleaned the house and did errands. My mom and sis made the beautiful desserts.
My sis did all of the paper elements and sis in law helped with all of the decorations.. including the adorable fabric streamers! And the china was borrowed from a friend of Rachel’s. My friend Laura designed this chalkboard! And she has an etsy shop!! I could not have pulled this off without everyone’s generous help!
All of the food turned out yummy too! I’ll be sharing the chicken salad recipe soon! As you can see I barely got a snap shot of the food…

Curious, have you hosted a shower or party in the pinterest age?
