{football friday} Waffle Bar

By Kristina LaRue, RDN 6 Comments

All the pictures on Facebook of tailgates, Auburn gear, and status updates about the game are getting me excited about tomorrow, but also making me a little sad that we did not make the trip to Atlanta for the season opener.

My parents are tailgating already. They rolled the RV into the GA dome last night, and already have the Orange and Blue set up for their tailgate. That’s how we do football in the SEC!

Eric has been planning our Saturday for a few weeks now since we are going to have a viewing party at our house.. just the two of us. Staring off with a morning run, watching ESPN game day, and getting festive with our tailgating spread.

A healthy tailgate should begin with breakfast! I’m all about keeping tailgate food interesting and this year we are kicking off football season with a build your own waffle bar! You can offer savory toppings (like mine) or sweet toppings (Eric’s choice, never fails), the possibilities are endless and sure to satisfy hungry football fanatics.

Note: If you are traveling to the game and want to make this spread easy. Prepare and cook the waffles at home and freeze them. Bring a toaster and heat them up as you’re ready to eat.

Toppings

  • Avocado
  • Eggs
  • Cheese
  • Black Beans
  • Hollendaise Sauce + Paprika
  • Salsa
  • Walnuts
  • Honey
  • Whipped Cream
  • Maple Syrup
  • Fresh Berries
  • Cinnamon
PS–> This is one of my recipeless recipes ๐Ÿ™‚ I used a Belgium waffle mix and layered on the toppings!

When my fellow Auburn RD grad, Regan said she was going to be hosting the {football friday} link ups again this year, I was pumped. This year, I hope to document all of our tailgating spreads to share on the blog.

Wishing you a healthy tailgating season and WAR EAGLE!

Questions: Are you a college football fan; who are you cheering for? What waffle toppings would you have on your waffle bar??

I love waffles! That would make Hokie football even more epic ๐Ÿ˜€ I would have to add maple syrup though (the real stuff though!)

Sad we can't make the game either, but hey… that's why tailgating at home is such a good idea too ๐Ÿ™‚
