This post is sponsored by Sprouts Farmers Market. Apple Crunch Slaw with Almond Butter Dressing... yep, let's talk legit fall food over here. We love the crunch in this plant-based salad from all the shredded veggies, apples, and sunflower seeds. I'm all about chopped salads or "slaw" in this case because sometimes just the way you prep your veggies can make a huge difference in their craveability. If you're asking me my opinion, chopped salads and slaw get my vote any day. Maybe it's the dressing to veggie ratio or tenderness that the extra chopping lends to veggies, or just the fun shape, but whatever the case may be that makes chopped salads and slaw superior, I'm game. Because who couldn't use some more tasty veggie recipes in their life? Annddd almond butter dressing? Say ... View Post

What is a Plant Based Diet?

By Kristina LaRue, RDN 3 Comments

This post is sponsored by Sprouts Farmers Market. Plant based eating is on trend and while you may be seeing the phrase everywhere, what does a plant based diet really mean? A plant based diet is often used interchangeably with vegan and vegetarianism, but this dietitian over here has her own thoughts on the subject. While you may see it all over packaged products that are derived from plant ingredients and popularized by the latest vegan documentary films, there isn’t a formal definition for the term. A plant based diet is having a plant forward approach to eating by putting plants as the cornerstone of your meals. Build a plate with mostly fruits, veggies, beans, whole grains, nuts and seeds and then (if you enjoy them) add animal proteins and dairy foods as a topping, ... View Post

How To Feed Peanut Butter to Baby: 8 ways on early introduction to peanuts

By Kristina LaRue, RDN 15 Comments

=This post is sponsored by the National Peanut Board. With the latest research suggesting early peanut introduction, we've rounded up 8 ways on how to feed peanut butter to baby. Turning six months was a big milestone for our sweet baby boy. He started crawling forward on his half birthday, cut two teeth, began pulling himself to standing and started solid foods. He’s still our happy go lucky baby and it’s been fun to watch him discover new things, especially as we begin our baby led weaning journey. Brooks was teething around 5 to 5 ½ months, so I started out offering him frozen breast milk pops in our favorite silicone feeders. This was our first step into solids for both of my boys because it gets them used to putting “food” they already love in their mouth. Not to mention it ... View Post

Superfood Turkey Tacos

Superfood Turkey Tacos a family favorite with an extra dose of veggies that you can't see. :) Ground turkey tacos sautéed with super tiny mushrooms, walnuts, and cauliflower rice to make a mostly plant based meaty meal. If you want to go completely veggie, I've even made these superfood turkey tacos with lentils instead of meat. Add fully cooked (yet slightly firm) lentils into the recipe instead of turkey at the turkey step in the directions. You will be so surprised at how your meat eaters will love this meal and your kiddos won't even taste the nutrition disguised into the taco meat. This recipe meal preps and freezes well too. Make up a batch at the beginning of the week and store in airtight container for when you're ready to dig in. You know I'm all about that freezer stock-- ... View Post
