Description

Gluten Free Cinnamon Sugar Cake Donuts… the best homemade gluten free donut you’ll ever eat.

Scale

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1 cup gluten free all purpose flour (I use King Arthur Measure for Measure Flour)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F; grease a 6-count non stick donut pan with pat of butter and paper towel, or spray with cooking spray.
  2. Grab a large microwave safe mixing bowl and melt 4 tablespoons butter in microwave.
  3. Stir in the maple syrup and vanilla extract, and beat the egg into the mixture.
  4. Add baking powder, salt and almond milk to bowl and stir until combined.
  5. Stir in the flour and mix until fully incorporated.
  6. Spoon the batter into the donut pan and spread it around to create a smooth surface.
  7. Bake donuts for 10 minutes; remove the pan from the oven and allow donuts to cool slightly.
  8. Pour sugar and cinnamon into a plastic bag and toss in the donuts. Seal the bag and gently give it a shake to coat each donut in cinnamon sugar. Store in airtight container.

Notes

Feel free to add more sugar to the bag, not all of the sugar will stick but that’s okay. ย You just want enough in the bag to coat the donuts evenly.

Apple cider donuts!! Have made these numerous times because they are easy and delicious ! I wanted some gluten free apple cider donuts so I experiment a bit. I took some fresh, seasonal apple cider and simmered it with a cinnamon stick for about 4 hours till it was thick and syrupy and substituted it for the maple syrup. The donuts turned out to be delicious!!!

These are super easy and delicious! I had a donut pan already that I had found on one of my TJ Maxx “I just need to buy things” binges, lol! But seriously, these are so perfect. Next time I am planning on dipping them in some chocolate glaze.

I loved this recipe!! I made them for my mum who is coeliac because I was also making glutinous donuts and didn’t want her to be left out. I fried them and they were perfect, even better than the glutinous ones (fluffy and light). I also added lemon zest for some extra flavour. We’ll be making these again!!

These are delicious! I made a double batch- as my doughnut pan is large. Glad I did! After dipping in sugar/cinnamon I drizzled them with maple syrup I brought to soft ball candy stage, let it cool before drizzling. Perfect!

Delicious! I used a plant-based butter, as well as homemade cashew milk. It is a great base recipe, and Iโ€™ve already got ideas beyond what we tried today (the cinnamon and sugar as called for in the recipe, as well as some frosting and sprinkles for my kiddo). Endless possibilities! It was the perfect way to start a snowy Wisconsin morning! Thank you!

This is a great recipe! I replaced the gluten free flour with cassava flour since I am grain free. I also brushed butter on the donuts and rolled them in the cinnamon/sugar so it would stick better. It is so good!! This recipe is a blank canvas to add more flavors to. Thank you so much!

These were amazing! I didn’t have a donut pan so I made some donut holes. I also used mostly almond flour and just a bit of gluten free flour to thicken it. I think I need to buy a donut pan just to make these again though:)

These were light and fluffy and so good! Didn’t have a donut pan so I used a mini muffin pan. Baked at 400 for 9 mins. Turned out perfect! Dipped them in melted butter then tossed in the sugar and they tasted even better than I remember gluten donuts tasting! Thank you for curing my craving for donuts!

My husband has been gluten free for years, and has craved donuts. I have tried so many recipes, with no luck.
    This recipe is AMAZING!!!!
I dipped the donuts in melted butter before putting them in the cinnamon sugar….that was great, however, the doughnut tasted so good, and the texture was so great, that no one knew they were gluten free!!!!

    Excellent!!!!!
    Thank you

Good question! I wonder if anyone else had this issue. My suggestion would be to add extra cinnamon and sugar and let them sit in the bag/shake them around a bit more.

Love this recipe, although I did change it just a bit. I didn’t have plain GF flour so I used 1 cup of the Live G Free brand pancake and baking mix. Since the mix already contains baking powder I left that out. They turned out so good. They were moist and sweet. This will definitely be my go to recipe when making donuts!

Just made these, turned out amazing! Subbed butter with coconut oil to be dairy free and worked fine ๐Ÿ™‚ thank you for this recipe. The only other changse i made was mixing in seperate bowl all the dry ingredients then adding that to the wet. Didn’t have doughnut pan used muffin pan, and used another bag to pipe the base in the pans.

You can likely sub in any milk in its place. Haven’t tested that out but don’t think it will make a difference.

Cashew milk makes a delicious substitute ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป For the almond milk. I also added a 1/4 cup of arrowroot flour which resulted in a slightly crispy shell but ultra soft inside.

My husband made these for me and they were absolutely delicious! We made exactly as written except we used brown rice flour and my husband made a vanilla cinnamon glaze instead of sugar and cinnamon, sooo yummy!! Thank you! Oh, we didn’t have donut pans so we used muffin pans and filled the pans about a quarter full.
